1. Remi wolf’s “Bottle”
Remi Wolf’s “Bottle” from her latest album Mud is the eclectic, emotionally vulnerable pop song we needed this October. Despite its upbeat melody, dreamy vocals, and surreal, colorful beach-themed music video, it’s an extremely honest and sometimes depressing picture of Wolf’s struggles with sobriety. Its complexity is best summed up in the chorus, “I’m off and on and off again/on and off and on again I can’t get the bottle if I don’t get up I can’t get the bottle if I don’t get up”

2. John Roseboro, “Bonanza”
This jazzy single from Brooklyn artist John Roseboro will transport you to the sun-dappled window of a cozy café, looking out on the orange, gold, and brown leaves of a tree-lined street. His organic baritone pulls you around in a sweeping dance over a crooning sax and trumpet, driving bass, and the complex post-bossa beats of the drum and cuíca.

3. Lamplight, “Clover”
Coming off Lamplight’s sophomore album, Lick the Spoon, Let it Soften, this lead single is a sweet, twangy, indie-folk darling. The warm guitar and lyrical musing on the balance of love, grief, and presence come together for a song perfect for an autumn walk through the changing leaves with a just-chill-enough breeze.
4. Willoh, “CU”
This genre-bending, glitch-pop single from Missouri-based artist, Willoh, has an edgy yet nostalgic feel, set over a mesmerizing beat that makes it perfect for a moody, introspective fall evening.
5. Amy Winehouse, “Back to Black, (Original Demo)”
This stripped-back demo of a 20-year-old classic is the musical equivalent of seeing the Mona Lisa be painted. Even in this unfinished version, you can feel Winehouse’s talent and understand how this album became one of the landmark albums of this century.
6. SOFY, “DooYaa”
This short-but-sweet, almost-poppy, almost-indie, tongue-in-cheek gem from U.K. artist SOFY is a refreshing and relatable song about her frustrations with nepotism within the music industry. The repeated lyrics of “ Do you like that? Do you like that? Do ya?” drip with a sarcastic energy that we are living for.
7. Cowboy Hunters, “Punched In The Head”
Coming out of the UK punk scene from Glasgow duo, Cowboy Hunters, this brash and eclectic song scratches a weird itch in your brain with an absolutely filthy bass line, natural “IDGAF” vocals, mixed in with a choice sample of, fittingly, “I can’t believe you’ve done this.”
8. Julia Jacklin, “If I Had The Hand Of God”
This single off Julia Jacklin’s new album The Gem became an instant indie gem here at the station. It’s a deeply emotional but direct statement on the contention Jacklin says underpins this whole album: “I want to love and be loved, but I also want to feel free. The tension between those two things has been the central question of my life.”
