Review of Briston Maroney's Concert | Lucas Hozza
Briston Maroney put on an energetic and emotional show at Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro, NC last monday. He is currently on the last leg of a tour to promote his debut album “Sunflower”, and was accompanied by supporting act, Medium Build. Starting off the set, Maroney played “Small Talk”, a fan favorite which had the crowd in an uproar singing along with him. Whether it was when he played his most popular songs, such as “Freakin’ Out on the Interstate” and “June”, or some of his lesser known songs such as “Why” and “Steve’s First Bruise”, Maroney was able to create a lively and interactive environment that captivated the crowd from start to finish through his infectious dancing, visible appreciation of the audience, and his remarkable energy. There were many moments that kept the audience engaged throughout the show, such as when he encouraged the audience to flip him off during the lyrics “middle finger” in his song “Freeway”, or when he would take photos on fans’ phones in between songs. He ended with a four song encore, including an acoustic version of “Cinnamon”, a new unreleased song titled “Told You So”, a fan favorite song titled “Under My Skin” that Briston only played because a fan challenged him to rock, paper, scissors to play the song. He finally ended his set with another popular song of his titled “Caroline”. Following the concert, Maroney ends up going to social media commending the fans that attended the show for bringing an energy that “ran through the room from start to finish.” He even stated, “That was the most fun I’ve had playing in so long!”
