The Plain White T’s Rocked the Block at Elon University

A band from the 2000s can still be authentic decades later!

A homecoming concert worth the travel expenses was held at Elon University earlier this month, celebrating alumni with a refreshing, high energy show from the Plain White T’s on October 10, 2025.

Rock The Block is part of Elon University’s annual homecoming celebration. The event is an exciting evening featured on campus including food trucks, bouncy houses, party games, fun fair vendors from around the area, and of course, live music. This year’s lineup included none other than the American made pop rock band: the Plain White T’s.

Known primarily for their 2005 hit song “Hey There Delilah”, the Plain White T’s are a group of passionate high school friends that have been singing since 1997. Although the group has gone through member changes and frustrating crashes, they still have the authentic, upbeat sound that boosted their popularity back in the early 2000s. With songs like “Rhythm of Love” and “Should’ve Gone To Bed” that keep a light, airy sound focused on authentic string instruments and head-bopping bass, it’s no surprise that the band was able to maintain the energy of a crowd of excited Elon students all night.

The concert, while primarily planned for homecoming, was free to attend to all students – and boy, did they attend. All across the front of the Young Common’s lawn were students of all ages and years, excitedly moving along with fan favorite songs like “1 2 3 4” and participating in every call and response chant that lead singer Tom Higgenson led.

Furthermore, every member of the band was active and encouraging to the many students, always giving thanks for their time, and laughing along with every silly joke that popped up throughout the show. Lead guitarist Tim Lopez even indulged in the many college kids starting up a “Timmy” chant in his honor, going on to express how it was, in Lopez’s words: “Only you guys and my grandmother” who called him such silly nicknames.

The show ended after about an hour, with the band wrapping up by playing “Hey There Delilah”. Which, safe to say from the noise, was the ultimate crowd favorite. There were friends screaming the lyrics into each other’s faces passionately, people swaying along to the acoustic guitar, and there was even an encore by Higgenson himself of a call and response from the famous chorus. The Plain White T’s were able to steal the hearts of many excited alumni and Elon students alike. With their soul-inspiring sound and their engaging personalities, it’s safe to say that many new fans were created at the Plain White T’s Rock the Block concert.
